WHAT WE TELLING TO OUR CATS?

Hello everybody

Today I want to share with you bad cat behaviours and how to fix them. :) Animals are our companions and they "want to" do what we want.The question is 'are we telling them correctly what we want?','are we communicating with them properly'?

Lets give an example your cat making `meooow meoooow` at 5 am.It wants food and what you are making ? Are you giving food to your cat? with other saying 'are you giving reward to this behavior?`
If you are giving what it wants you telling your cat 'You keep doing this I understand'...
So today we will see what bad behaviours our cats have and are we causing these?How we can communicate better with our cats?

FIXING BAD BEHAVIORS

1.'MEOW' for get what it wants...

Your cat crying till it gets what it wants...It wants to play,it wants food,it wants to go out...And it keep meowing till you do what your cat wants.

If you react positively to this behavior.... Not a surprise your cat will keep doing it..Worse , it will do it more and more.Because you teached it how to communicate with you with this way.So it learned how to tell you what it wants and keep telling you till you do it.It can be really disturbing. While you working your little friend will come and none stop crying for get what it wants...

What you can do about this? You should not respond to this act.Let it 'meow'.When it stops and relaxes you can reward this. For example.It wants food and crying none stop.Let it cry. When it stops crying  you can go and give food.With this way your cat will learn crying not working but sitting quality is working. Your little cat may develop new ways to tell you what it needs/wants. For example my cat sitting next to food bowl and waiting. :) So show your cat with which way you want it to communicate with you.It will learn.Cats are smart. :) 

If its not work... When my cat didn't stop crying and being spoiled I closed him to room for 5 minutes.When he got out he got the message. :) Never act with anger,don't shout to your cat.Be calm and do what you have to do.

2.Behaving bad for attention

If your cat wants attention while you are busy...Your cat may do things that you won't like for getting your attention on itself.For example scratching around or something it knows you don't approve. :) 

What you can do about this? 

It is very important not become angry in these situations.If your little kitty knows you becoming angry it can use it in the future too.Let him stop what it doing and don't show attention right after it. Wait it relax and behave how you want to.After you can give him attention so he will learn how to ask for attention.

3.Stealing Food 

You shouldn't let your cat eat the stolen food.You shouldn't let him jump on table or anywhere you eat or prepare food. You can always give him from your food.With your permission :)

4.Rules

Everybody have their own house rules. Your children,you,your husband / wife, mother, father whoever living in the house obey these common rules.Your cat must too! No matter how cute it is :D For example it shouldn't do its toilet middle of living room, it shouldn't eat from table...:) You should teach these to your cat with correcting the bad behavior with kindness.In short time your cat will learn all the rules.Also don't forget if your cat is an adult it can learn and change its behaviours too. 
You don't have to find a kitten for teach it things. :)

HOW I MET MY CAT :)

Today I will tell you how I met my cat..
It was an autumn day and I was sitting at home..My mother called and said "here on street there are 5 kittens.Somebody left them.One doesn't have ears.I think somebody cut them` I said `omg bring it here fast` and at night my mother brang him and leave it to my house.It was small orange baby that  scared from outside word. Ran away under sofa and didn't come out for days...I didn't even name it yet. I couldn't see him proper even.He ran under sofa and didn't even eat.I put water and food next to him.Maybe he ate while I sleep. :) No idea. After few days he started getting used to.He came out under sofas  and started communicate with me. I have dogs and other cats too.I didn't take them inside of home for few days.Little kitty was already scaring too much. And luckly I realised he didn't have cut ears. He had folded ears :). My mother was so sad because of his brothers and sisters were on stairs at cold street still.She brought all of them too to our garden.
They had straight ears but they were look alike each other.

All of them were becoming more beautiful everyday.I named him Kubu. I wonder who throw them to street ...
Anyway I had to move to Poland after 1 year. And Kubu had to stay with my mother for 7 months. After we transported him to Poland. Only thing I was worrying he was with other cats there and here he is a single cat.But I found ways for keeping him busy.Playing with him twice a day regularly is helping with his boredom.Also he got a bit more fat ;) Winter is coming he is eating a little more than usual.

Kubu is very clever and best companian for us. Also we saved a life from streets.They would be long gone at winter on those streets.He became my best friend.My advice before go and pay for a pet check for helpless animals at streets or at shelter. You can save a life and you will have a lifetime friend that lives with you share its life with you and most important it needs you/loves you.
They show feelings in diffrent ways.Throwing out helpless kittens to street never a solution...if you having hard time with your cats and u MUST give them away you should try find a good home for them...Not leaving them to death.
Especially cats used to live in house can't survive at outside world.

Its your choice if you want a cat for your family you can start checking for helpless cats :)

1.Iriomote Cat : Iriomote cat discovered in 1964.It has brown coat and dark spots on its fur.Same size of a domesticated cat and a predetor.There are about 250 adults and they only living in Japan /iriomote island.They live in rain forest climate and they avoid mountains and dry areas.They are creatures of the night.When night comes start search for food.They hunt on trees but they have diffrent way too for hunt.Swimming. These cats can swim for find their food.Iriomote cats live alone and all have their own territory.These cats are not domesticated.

2.Sand Cat: Sand cats are one of smallest cats and they are not domesticated. These cats living in deserts , far from water and have the colour of sand.Dealing very well with extreme desert enviroment.(adapted to extremely hot and cold temperatures) It has small legs and a long tail.They live in Northern Africa,Asia, They eat small animals and drink water when they can find.These cats can survive without water for months.

3.European Wild Cat:European cats are larger than domesticated house cats. These cats have striped , long fur , long fluffy tail.In winter at forest wildcat's fur colour is mainly grey.European wild cats living in Europe,Asia,Africa,India,Western China and Mongolia. Breeding the wild cat with domesticated species is a treat for the preservation of wild cat.

4,Leopard Cat : Leopard cats live in Asia and they are sized of domesticated cat.But they are completely wild :) At southern leopard cats have yellowish- pointy fur with white chest and belly, and pale silver fur at the northern population.

5.Pallas Cat: This is a small wild cat with very much fur :) Their long fur make them look plush. Ths poor cats hunted for their fur for long time. Pallas Cats are size of domesticated cats. It believed that Pallas cats are one of the oldest cat breeds.They live in grasslands of central asia.Their winter coat is greyer than the summer coat.Both males and females have their own marked territory.They live in small caves,spend time in these places till late afternoon come after that they go out for hunting.

There's no need to panic and send away one of your family members. Well-cared house cats rarely have toxoplasma.You can take your cat to veterinarian and have your cat a toxoplasma test.Your own doctor will make a test for either.Its safe to keep a cat.You can always take advice from your veterinarian and your doctor. I m pregnant too and I have a cat.Just don't forget pregnant women shouldn't change litter box and avoid kissing cat after it groom. Toxoplasma transmitted by excrement.Don't forget you shouldn't feed your cat with raw meat.Cats can have toxoplasma from uncooked meat same pregnant women should wash their hands very good after touching uncooked meat too. If you be careful about raw meat,not letting your cat roam and hunt,not touching litter box there s nothing to scared about having a cat.

The crib must be forbidden to cats .When baby is too small it can be dangerous for babies. Your cat can be curious about going into crib, teach it kindly to not go in. With infants you should always watch your pet and baby. Even the most tolerant animal can be feel under threat and act aggressivly.


 Children & Cats

Raising children with animals will teach them loving and respecting to other living beings.Of course before you have to teach few things to your children,cat and yourself :)

First thing you have to do is teach your children how to pet and play with cat. Its important. Otherwise cat can run away from kids and don't want play with them.Kids will be a stress source for your little friend. We rather them to be friends,play together,have nice communication :) Its natural kids want to grab , hug  the cat. You should teach them how to act kindly, teach how to pet and hug it without causing stress to cat. You should also teach them the cat's body language.So kids will know when cat don't want to play  or be petted.Your children must know animals have feelings and they can feel tired , stressed too just like us. So they shouldn't see the cat as stuffed animal toy.They should know cat is living and feeling just like them.They should learn respect them.

Cat owners must know that looking after cat is never childrens' responsibility.You must be the one who caring about the cat but its always a good idea sharing the responsibility with your children.You can teach them how to feed , changing its water, grooming.These are very beneficial for children too,They will learn taking responsibility, caring about another living being,sharing, friendship and love. But you can never leave all responsibility to children about the cat. They are really young to know what cat needs. They can't take fully responsibility.Animals can suffer because of this.So don't forget its your responsibility.


Be a role model for your children.Be kind and patient towards the cat all the time.Even if it steal the food from table :D. Because children will learn from you how to threat animals.Always be kind and nice.

Cats which living with us are one of our family.We all want have happy cats in our house,we all have some rules for everyone. Things can be done and shouldn't be done.We provide rules for all family.Good pet owners should be loving,caring and discipline their pets with kindness. Sometimes pet owners making big mistakes without knowing. Making mistakes can harm your pet and may not work quite well.

PUNISHING YOUR PET : It is never a good idea and one of biggest mistakes.Punishment will provide fear, stress and sadness.Worse they can start afraid from you. You shouldn't punish your cat in any way.
What to do: You can kindly warn your pet, you can try distract it.For example rather than yelling to it,or closing it to a room for an hour you must say 'NO' and be patient for your pet to learn what to not do.



LEAVING YOUR CAT ALONE FOR LONG TIME : Leaving your pet alone in home for long time will make it stressful and can cause mental problems.Especially if you leave your pet in cage or in a room it makes the situation much worse.Your animal will have anxiety,can't reach litter box,uncomfortable, stressful... What to do: If you have to leave your cat home alone be sure that you didn't leave it alone more than few days.Don't close it to a room or a cage. Leave enough food and lots of water. You can leave radio open for some sound in home.
    
GIVING TOO MUCH FOOD: You can't give food every time your cat asks for it.You should be careful about overeating problems.Care about your cats' weight. What to do: Know how much you need to feed your cat and don't over feed your pet. You can always ask your veterinarian.

NOT GOING TO VETERINARY : Only going to veterinary when your cat is sick is not enough. You should regularly take your little friend to veterinary for being sure everything okay. You cant always see if something wrong with your cat.They cant say to you if something wrong with themselves either.Also your cat needs regular vaccination.So be sure you are taking your cat to veterinary regularly.

OFTEN CHANGING PET FOOD :You shouldn't change your pet food often except your veterinary asks you to change.Cats' diet is very important about their health. This is an area you should be careful.You shouldn't change your food depending friend or pet shop owner's advices. Every cat is different and they have different needs. Your cat may have allergy,your cat may need more protein,your cat may be elder, or just needs a better fur. Your veterinary will lead you best about it.


NOT HAVING YOUR CAT NEUTERED : Cats in nature have urges after they are 7 months old. They need to mate. They start to being aggressive and stressful at rutting time. They will start marking home with their urine.( very bad smell) Worse thing is when they can't mate  they will be angry,stressful and disappointed.Also it can cause serious health problems in long term. If you can't breed your cat regularly you must have your cat neutered.For it's health.
         
 Note: Some people keep saying `oh I cant ruin my cat s nature` When u give food,keep your pet safe,taking veterinary,keeping your cat you already changing cats' nature. Cats in nature live  3 years and making kittens as much as they can. Few kittens reach adulthood. Cats have about 12 kittens in one year.In nature only 1-3 of them will survive. With human's care all babies can survive and reach adulthood.This is already an unbalance for nature.If you want to breed your cat and have kittens regularly you should really think about what you will do with the kittens.

ENFORCE YOUR CAT: Enforcing your cat about anything is very bad.This can cause fear  and makes your cat unhappy. For example enforcing your cat for eat dry food,sleep, enforcing for grooming won't help. It will only create stress to your cat and make things harder.

Every cat groom itself for cleaning its fur,removing dead hairs,Its natural and necessary.The dead hairs  swallowed by cat while  they grooming and to stomach after to entrails.If this successfully happens it means there's no problem.
The problem begins when hairs don't reach to entrails and stuck in stomach.Cats usually get rid of from these hairs by throwing up.If cat can't get rid of these hairballs, situation becomes dangerous and even lethal.In these cases cats suffer from constipation,loss of appetite and start to throw up what they eat.
Longhair cats have more problem with hairballs than short hair cats.

The things you can do for minimize hairball formation;

1. Groom your cat and collect dead hairs.
2. You can prefer cat foods with 'hairball control'
3. If needed use malt hairball remedy (ask your vet) for help your cat remove hairballs easier.
4. Having Cat Grass is very useful for removing hairballs.Every cat needs to eat some grass time to time for easier digest.
5. Keep your cat active.Regularly play games.Make your cat play,run,stretch.Active cats develop healthier skin and fur.

Note: If you having any problem about your cat's health its recommended at least asking your veterinarian. When your cat has some health issues its very wrong using random medicines,making diagnosis yourself.Always ask your veterinerian.Trying to cure animals with ugnorant way can cause wrong treatment and serious conclusions.

Note:You may think 'why I should do everything for my cat,cats already know how to groom' etc. Keep in mind in nature cats' lifespan is about 3 years.House cats with your care live up to 20 years.

Best way to avoid hairballs is being sure your cat has a healthy skin.Healhty skin provides strong and soft fur.Shiny and soft fur shows you that your cat has healthy skin.Feeding your cat with high quality foods,going veterinary regularly , having an active cat, and keeping your pet away from stress.Stress is one of the biggest reasons for hair loss.

Having Problems Grooming Your Cat ?

Make grooming enjoyable..My cat loves to be groomed under sun.
Timing is important.When your cat energic,
stressed,playful its not good time for groom.Wait till your little friend is relaxed.(after eat,after exercise...) If your cat not used to being groomed keep it short. (10 mins max.) If your cat become stressed while you groom stop it and wait it to relaxed again ,start grooming. Be patient.Don't forget to groom every part of your cat. Be gentle near belly and chest.If your cat short haired than you can groom it once a week.If your cat longhaired and having hairball problems you have to groom it everyday.

PREPARING YOUR CAT FOR WINTER

Fall is here and winter is coming. Summer passed and weather is starting to get colder. If your cat eats a little more than usual, don't try to stop it. By eating a little more,  it's just trying to get more fat in its body for winter and it's an ordinary thing to do. Because getting more fat in it's body is a preperation for winter. It has it's own preps too .
     First of all your cat may need more food just allow it, but don't mix it with obese/overeating problems. So be careful.

We've come to end of delightful,sunny days.If you have a balcony and your cat used to go out don't worry at cold your cat generally won't want to go balcony/ outside. Maybe just for few minutes it will look around.At cold weathers its better watching outside from windows.Still if your pet wants to go look outside from balcony you can let it look.It won't stay long if its cold. :) Let your cat decide for its own good sometimes.If it is curious whats going on outside let it experience it.Your cat will decide come back to home fast :) Don't forget after few minutes if your little friend still didn't come you can take it back to warm indoors. 

You will notice while your cat sleeping  everywhere in summer (floor,chairs maybe even balcony) at cold weathers it will prefer to sleep at your bed :) , or at sofas.

You may not feel cold enough to warm your house.It may not same for your cat.It can be cold. You can give soft,warm blankets to your cat. If it has its own pet bed put there one warm blanket. If not put anywhere it likes to sleep.Cats love to go under warm,soft things even when they are not cold.You should not forget `kittens` shouldn't go out at very cold weathers no matter what.They don't have full fur,enough fat yet.


When it's cold or wet its best to keep your old,sick or young pets inside.

You may not feel need to warm your house.With these small supplies you can make your cat happy and warm. Its more about their enjoyment than avoiding cold :) Warm and soft things are 'cat thing'.Be sure u provide these to your pet.

Cat's fur is not perfect for cold weather but usefully enough. Another important point is its not recommended make your cat wear clothes.Cats definitely don't like it.Also they cant clean themselves,they don't feel comfortable with cat clothes.Its not recommended.





Cats are very resistant to heat.So don't panic if your cat laying on heater,radiator and other hot places.



Life is easier to indoor cats when its cold outside.
One thing you can do for outdoor cats 'feral cat shelters' if you can not do nothing you can leave some boxes and put inside something warm.Street cats can hide in bad weathers. Below links you can have some ideas.And don't forget to put water and food for street cats.That's most important.  
In hard winters many cats and dogs die because of cold.Small things you can do can save their lives.

WHICH FOOD IS BEST FOR MY CAT

Our cats are one of our family members and we want them eat healthy as much as we do. We want to choose healthy food for our little friends.I recommend first ask  your veterinary about with which food you should feed your cat because your cat can be old,allergic or simply fat :)

After this there are some tips of choosing a cat food.

I asked my veterinary about what dry food I should use with my cats his answer 'Something not cheap.Cheap ones don't have meat' So I don't prefer cheap cat foods.Cats are carnivores.They need to eat meat. If meat 10 euro there can't be 1 euro cat food.What is inside ?

Start reading backside of the food package.There shouldn't be corn, corn gluten , soy,wheat,dried barley,artificial coloring,rye  inside.None of these are good for cats. Cats don't eat corn...they don't eat any of these.And shouldn't. These are in cat foods for decreasing cost. Low-price ingredients.Also some cats having allergic reactions to these ingredients and worse they may have serious illnesses like cancer. The main ingredient must be meat. That's natural and quality for cats.

Main Ingredients In Cat Foods: 

Fish : Fish makes cats' coat shiny and healthy but in nature cats don't eat sea food often.Problem with this ingredient is if the fish has antioxidant called ethoxyquin.(EMQ) Ethoxyquin is very harmful to cats.Make sure about checking 'ethoxyquin free' when food includes fish.

Tuna and Salmon are great for cats because they include great amount of protein and omega 3. Also salmon has very low mercury.

Beef: This is a high quality product for cats. Contains very important proteins and it is necessary for cats' health.The important point you should look at products with beef  it shouldn't be 'meal form'. Once its fully cooked it lose most of nutritious.

Rabbit: This product is a high quality protein source for cats. When 'rabbit' listed on packet it means `whole rabbit` without fur and bones of course :) My cat's one of favorite is wet food with rabbit.

Lamb: Lamb itself can be a great source of protein but no matter canned or dry food lamb loses %80 of its quality during cooking. So its not very good option for cat foods.

Chicken : Another protein source for cats. Most of chicken is water.During cooking procedure it loses some of its quality.Chicken is good for cats but 'alone' it not has enough meat protein for cat.

Not matter if you feeding your cat with dry food or canned food always try to choose most natural ones.Ingredients in same brand can be changed. So its all owner's responsibility to check ingredients of food.

Sometimes cats don't want to eat dry foods because of taste.Its when food don't have any  sweeteners and some taste giving chemicals.So taste bad not mean 'unhealthy' Don't forget if you feeding your cat with poor quality foods your cat will have serious health issues in time.Especially male infertile cats having kidney problems.Poor quality foods must be avoided.If you have many cats and can't afford good quality food you can always give normal food like makaron&liver. ( Don't forget ask your veterinary in any case)

I sometimes giving my cat what I eat.Without salt.Be sure your cat not eat anything salty.Especially when I eat fish  he wants some :)

Its always a difference for your cat.

I think my cat is helping me choose good quality food too :) For example my cat never eat specific food brands even if he is very hungry.When I do research about those foods I see that he is right to not eat.He decided his favorite one is Felix :) I made my researched about the food and they use quality meat also they don't use any of these ingredients above.My cat don't like dry food.It eats dry only when he doesn't have wet food.You can ask your vet whats best for your cat.Dry,wet or both!
Note : If your cat doesn't want to eat specific food don't force your cat to eat it.You can try not giving another food one day but if it still not eats the food.Just don't insist about giving it.

Note : You can always put some food outside for street cats. They will appreciate :)
